5 Tips To Reduce Computer Strain

Preventing Eye Strain

  1.  Use the 20/20/20 Rule. Every 20 minutes take your eyes off the computer and stare at something 20 feet away for 20 seconds to prevent eye strain. If you can take a longer break, every thirty minutes rest your eyes for 1-3 minutes by answering phone calls or doing filing.
  2. Convert to a Standing Desk. Prolonged sitting has been proven to have negative effects on the body and to increase mortality rates. Simple DIY desk conversions can be found online.
  3. Regularly Exercise. This doesn’t mean you need to be a workout nazi. Every 30 minutes get up and take a quick walk around the office. Take the stairs rather than the elevator. If you work in an isolated area, consider doing wall sits or push ups. These little things add up.
  4. Socialize. This may sound counter-intuitive but getting up to chat for a few minutes every hour will prevent you from sitting tensely at your desk and will ensure you get some movement in your day. It will also help build morale in your office!
  5. Remember this diagram when sitting at your desk.
