Before and After: Fix and Flip at 14508 and 14504 Northwest 142nd Place

Renovating a duplex is no small task, but it can breathe new life into space when done right. The renovation of our newly purchased duplex at 14508 and 14504 Northwest 142nd Place in Alachua, Florida, is a perfect example of how thoughtful updates can revitalize a property, enhancing both its aesthetic appeal and functionality. Both units in the duplex, each with two bedrooms and one bath, received a complete overhaul that modernized every corner. From the exterior facelift to the stylishly redesigned interiors, the renovation has turned these units into contemporary, comfortable, and inviting homes. Let’s explore how each area of the duplex was transformed.

Exterior Front:

Before:

The front of the duplex lacked charm and had an outdated, uninviting appearance. The porches were basic, and the landscaping was in need of attention. The entry didn’t provide the welcoming atmosphere that modern homes deserve.

After:

The transformation begins at the front, where the porches were completely redesigned with brand-new gable roofs and larger patios, creating a warm and inviting entrance to both units. The old siding was replaced with fresh, modern materials that give the property a sleek and polished look. The landscaping was upgraded to include carefully selected plants and flower beds, giving the duplex a clean, contemporary curb appeal. A stone driveway complements the property’s color scheme while also helping keep dirt out of the units. To complete the makeover, stylish charcoal gray was added, creating a cohesive look that draws attention without overwhelming the space.

Kitchen:

Before:

The kitchens in both units were cramped, with outdated countertops showing their age. The layout didn’t take full advantage of the available space, and the rooms felt isolated from the rest of the duplex.

After:

One of the biggest changes was opening the kitchens by removing the wall between the kitchen and dining areas. This move instantly created a brighter, more open atmosphere that connects the kitchen to the rest of the duplex. A new glass door was added to each unit, making the space feel larger while also allowing for better natural light and easy access to the backyard. The highlight of the new kitchens is the stunning granite countertops, which add a touch of elegance and modernity. Fresh flooring throughout the spaces completes the kitchen transformation into stylish, functional areas that are perfect for cooking and entertaining.

Dining Room:

Before:

The dining rooms in both units felt isolated from the rest of the duplex, with the closed-off layout contributing to a sense of separation from the kitchen and living room.

After:

With the wall between the kitchen and dining areas removed, the dining spaces in both units now feel much more open and connected. The addition of a glass door to each backyard improves the flow of light and creates an airy atmosphere. The dining rooms are now spacious and comfortable areas that effortlessly blend with the rest of the duplex, ideal for family meals and social gatherings.

Living Room:

Before:

The living rooms in both units had outdated flooring, minimal lighting, and a small, cramped feel. They didn’t offer an inviting space that would make guests feel welcome or provide a relaxing environment for the residents.

After:

The living rooms were transformed with new flooring, large energy-efficient windows, and fresh paint that brightened the spaces significantly. The new windows allow natural light to flood in, making the rooms feel much larger and more open. With their updated lighting fixtures and fresh, modern feel, the living rooms now serve as perfect gathering spots for family and friends, offering both comfort and style.

Bathroom :

Before:

The bathrooms in both units were outdated, with old flooring and badly patched drywall featuring outdated wainscoting. The vanities were tired, and the overall spaces were in need of an update to match the rest of the duplex’s potential.

After:

The bathrooms were completely refreshed in both units by replacing the vanities with more stylish and functional units, and new fixtures were installed to add a contemporary flair. A fresh coat of paint and drywall repairs gave the rooms a clean, polished look. The updated lighting fixtures and modern details made these bathrooms not only more functional but also beautiful spaces to enjoy.

Bedroom 1:

Before:

The first bedrooms in both units were dated, with an old carpet and a lack of modern features. The spaces felt dark and didn’t maximize their potential.

After:

The first bedrooms in both units received complete makeovers, including fresh paint, new carpet, and updated fixtures. The addition of modern light fixtures and bright, neutral colors gives the rooms a serene, comfortable atmosphere, perfect for rest and relaxation.

Bedroom 2:

Before:

The second bedrooms in both units were like the first, with worn carpet and outdated features that made the rooms feel closed off and uninviting.

After:

The second bedrooms in both units were given a similar treatment to the first, with new flooring, fresh paint, and modern finishes. The spaces now feel much larger and more comfortable, with updated lighting and fixtures that enhance the rooms’ overall appeal. These bedrooms now serve as versatile spaces, whether for a guest room, home office, or personal retreat.

Exterior Back:

Before:

The backyards of both units were largely underused, with limited access from the house and little privacy. They weren’t areas that could be enjoyed or utilized for outdoor living.

After:

The backs of the duplex were transformed into private, functional outdoor living spaces. A new privacy fence was installed, providing seclusion and a sense of security. To make the backyards more accessible, new doors were added to both units, allowing easy access to the outdoor areas. The addition of pavers in shades of gray provides stylish and functional spaces for dining or relaxing. With new lighting added, the backyards are now cozy, private retreats that are perfect for outdoor entertainment or simply unwinding in a quiet setting.

Final Thoughts:

The renovation of 14508 and 14504 Northwest 142nd Place took a dated, underutilized duplex and turned it into two contemporary, comfortable homes. Every area, from the updated front porches and remodeled kitchens to the stylish bathrooms and revamped backyards, was thoughtfully redesigned to improve flow, functionality, and overall appeal. The finished product is a modern duplex that balances style and comfort, offering a fresh and welcoming environment for its new residents. This renovation is a prime example of how a well-planned remodel can completely revitalize a property, bringing new life to every corner.
