Local Highlight | The Pink Flamingo and other cool High Springs spots

The city of High Springs is located just north of Gainesville and has a lot to offer.

Visitors to High Springs have a variety of options from state parks that offer outdoor lovers an abundance of natural environments and amenities, and there are plenty of reasonably priced dining options.

Below are a few things to see and do around High Springs:

Pink Flamingo Diner

The fun and vibrant Pink Flamingo features classic diner fare, a vegan menu, organic farm to table items, a family mini golf course, signature craft beers from Swamp Head Brewery and First Magnitude Brewing Company and drive-through coffee and espresso drinks. Keep an eye out for colorful murals inside and outside of the diner.

Take a swing

Pink Flamingo offers a professionally designed 18-hole course. Experience tranquil water features, tropical landscaping, challenging golf holes and more. This course is the perfect spot for a night with friends, a day out with family, any birthday party or just for fun! There is also a designated children’s play area with a submarine and gorgeous underwater backdrop for family memories and photos.

Coffee & Ice Cream

Do not forget to check out the kiosk right next to mini golf where you can find a coffee shop with soft serve ice cream, including a vegan option!

Waffle cone, cake cone, chocolate, vanilla, swirl, espresso, latte. whatever your preference is, we have it! Stop by for a sweet pick-me-up after a stop at the diner.

River Ranch Water Park

Bring sunscreen! The water is cool, but the sun is HOT!

River Ranch Water Park does not allow alcohol or smoking on the premises.

You’ll probably work up an appetite, so feel free to bring food and coolers, but remember – no glass containers will be allowed.

They are a Christian facility and request that only modest swimsuits be worn. If in doubt, they recommend bring a cover-up to wear over your swimsuit.

Come ready to have some good, clean, family-friendly fun!

The Talented Cookie

A hidden gem! The Talented Cookie is located in High Springs and is one of my favorite stops. I’ve borrowed a chair to work a few hours and stopped by to grab a pick-me-up while antiquing with friends.

They offer a wide- variety of drinks and treats. My personal favorite is the iced latte with coconut and vanilla.

The Great Outdoors

Located on Main Street, The Great Outdoors Restaurant is known for its inviting décor, hand-picked steaks, fresh seafood, and mouth-watering desserts.

The restaurant has consistently won awards that rank it among one of the top restaurants in the state. Though it may not be a good fit for those looking to feed a family on the cheap, it’s the perfect place for a romantic evening and food unlike you’ll find anywhere else in town.

Most items are made fresh on-site, and there are plenty of light options like soup and salad for those counting calories.

High Springs Museum

First-time visitors to High Springs looking to get a unique insight into the history of the town should plan to visit the High Springs Museum.

Located on NW 187th Avenue just behind City Hall, it’s adjacent to the town’s historic schoolhouse that’s worth checking out as well.

The museum’s exhibits focus on the settlement era, the local economy and culture, and the Native Americans who called the area home long before the city was officially founded.

The museum is open on Saturdays and Sundays, and admission is free.

Ichetucknee Springs State Park

No matter where you find yourself in the Sunshine State, you’re likely not very far from a state park or two.

Ichetucknee Springs State Park is a mecca for fit and active outdoorsy types and offers a variety of recreation options, including tubing, swimming, snorkeling, and mountain biking.

The Park sits near the confluence of the Santa Fe River and Ichetucknee Springs and was made an official natural landmark in the early ‘70s.

From May until September, the river inside the park is often full of tubers, swimmers, and anglers. Whether you decide to see things from the water or land, you’ll likely encounter a variety of natural habitats and the animals that inhabit them.

O'leno State Park

O’leno State Park is one of the oldest parks of its kind in Florida, and many of its amenities were developed and built by laborers working for the Civilian Conservation Corps in the ‘30s.

The Park sits along the scenic shores of the Santa Fe River and is comprised of a variety of distinct habitats, including hardwood forests, swamps, sandhills, and even primordial sinkholes.

Biking and hiking are also popular park activities, and though the park often draws crowds during peak times, it’s big enough that it doesn’t usually feel overcrowded.

Take the drive and explore High Springs for yourself and let us know if you stumble across any cool spots.
