Local Highlight | Lake City, Florida

Located just north of Gainesville, Lake City offers a wide variety of things to do. Attracting visitors year-round, activities in and around Lake City range from shopping to national forest.

Scenic Route or Interstate

You can always jump on the interstate for a quick drive; however, I suggest taking 441 to Lake City. 441 is a 939-mile-long route that extends from Miami to Tennessee. The section of road that runs from Gainesville to Lake City is known as the DeSoto Trail and takes you through a small forgotten town like High Springs and Ellisville.

Webb's Antique Mall

Webb's Antique Mall began in 1995 and is home to 400 Antique filled booths and cases inside a 60,000 square foot air-conditioned facility.

This multi-dealer mall is restocked daily and features a huge collection of antiques and collectibles ranging in prices for all budgets.

You just never know what you will find!

Brooklyn’s Coffee

Brooklynn’s Coffee is a mobile coffee shop that can be found at different locations in Lake City. Be sure to follow their Facebook page for locations and times. We also have fun finding them.

Southern Sisters

Shop local and support small! I really do love a good small business and Southern Sisters meets all the qualifications. With an affordable selection of boutique merchandise, Southern Sisters provides a breath of fresh air to your closet. Here, you’ll find no cookie-cutter inventory, but hand-selected items with new styles being added regularly.

BW Blacksmith Deli and Grill

Nostalgic counter service offering burgers, subs, and other American grub.

In addition to deli items, they offer coffee locally roasted in Lake City. They also sell ground coffee in-store by the pound and on their website for those who can’t make it to the store.

Located between Lake City and Jacksonville and bisected by Interstate 10, the Osceola National Forest is Florida's northernmost and smallest national forest. Nearly 200,000 acres are protected by the boundaries of the Osceola National Forest, including several wilderness areas and a wildlife corridor that stretches north towards Georgia and the Okeefenokee Swamp.

Off-road vehicles are welcome to use unpaved forest roads to explore the forest, except where boundary markers indicate otherwise. Forest roads may be walked, bicycled, or explored on horseback as well. There is one designated trail for backpackers, a 20-mile segment of the Florida Trail stretching from Deep Creek to Olustee Battlefield, as well as several nature trails for all ages.

While Florida is one of the flattest states in the nation and certainly not known for waterfalls, it is home to at least one waterfall worth visiting. Falling Creek Falls near Lake City, Florida is a great place to venture out to for anyone looking for nature to explore for an afternoon. Only a short drive outside of the city along Interstate 10, the waterfall features deep amber-hued waters that cascade over a limestone terrace, providing a particularly scenic site and a popular photo opportunity for visitors. There is a boardwalk running from the parking lot to Falling Creek Falls.

Alligator Lake has long been a gathering place for locals and visitors. South of downtown, restored from agricultural land to wetlands, its primary recreational focus is its extensive hiking trails. Visitors can also enjoy the picnic area and playground or launch a canoe or kayak into the wetlands for a close-up view of wildlife, but the big deal is the extensive network of hiking trails. Some start just behind the restrooms and playground and offer short walks through the forest along the east side of the park. The longest loop, however, is the Montgomery Trail, which starts down at the canoe launch, and circles the impoundments along the lake

As you can see, Lake City offers a little something for everyone. Whether you opt for indoor or outdoor activities I encourage you to get out there and see what North Central Florida has to offer. There are some great hidden gems in this area!
