Local Highlight | Zoo Tampa at Lowry Park

We recently visited Zoo Tampa at Lowry Park and it did not disappoint. It was the perfect combination of zoo and amusement park. There were plenty of rides to keep the kids entertained and just the right number of animals.

If you purchase your tickets online, you can save $3.00 off the gate ticket price. Currently, when you buy a single-day ticket you receive admission to the zoo for the rest of 2021. What a deal! Seeing as how the zoo is only a 2 hour drive you can easily go several more times. Also, active-duty military, reserve soldiers, airmen, Marines, sailors and Coast Guardsmen,  can receive four complimentary tickets.

The zoo is divided into six sections. Each section features animals from their respective locations.

Our crew loved the penguins.

Face masks not required

Face masks do not have be worn at all times. When outside you are not required to wear a mask. However, they do ask that you wear your mask when indoors.  The

Rides

I was really impressed by the rides they had to offer. The Jungle Carousel is extra unique due to the varied animals to choose from, including a manatee or a dragon. The Wallaroo section of the zoo houses the remaining rides, like the Tasmanian Tiger Coaster and the Overland Express Train.

Splash Zone

When we stumbled across the splash zone I instantly regretted not reading the website better and bringing swimsuits. Thankfully we were able to sneak by the splash zone, however, before leaving we decided to go back and just let the kids play in their clothes. It did not disappoint! Water sprays from the ground and buckets drench kids as they run and play.

Don’t be me! Plan ahead and bring your swimsuits, towels, and sunscreen.

There is no shortage of food options. You can choose indoor or outdoor seating with food choices ranging from light snacks to full meals. With 3 little ones we opted for kids meal from Boomers Café and grabbed an outside table.

Visitors are also allowed to bring water and small snacks into the zoo, but no large coolers.

This was our first visit to Zoo Tampa at Lowry Park but it won’t be our last. Between the animals, the rides, and the splash area, you need more than a one day to experience it all so we will definitely be taking advantage of our pass and visiting several more times before the year is over.
