Local Highlight | Visiting Disney During a Pandemic

Are you considering taking advantage of Disney World’s latest “Florida Resident deal”?

Understandably, making the decision to go to Walt Disney World, or any theme park during these strange times brings lots of uncertainties. We took a trip to Disney back in January and here are somethings to consider when making your decision:

Walt Disney World theme parks are operating at 35% capacity

  • This also means that some restaurants, shops and theaters are closed. There also isn’t as many indoor spaces for guest to occupy and many of the ride queues have been moved outside. The wait times for the lines didn’t seem to be any shorter than normal.

Parks are operating on reduced hours

When we booked our trip the hours for Magic Kingdom were 9am- 6pm. However, the park ended up being open until 8. You can check the park hours here.

Face mask are STRICTLY enforced

Face masks must be worn at all times on Walt Disney World property. The only exception is when you are eating and drinking, stationary in one spot.  No, you cannot eat or drink while walking to the next ride, or while waiting in line.

  • Mask cannot be removed while taking photos. (Believe me, I tried)
  • We visited the park in January and the temperature never rose above 65. If you are considering going during the warmer months, I would definitely consider Florida’s 90+ degree weather, as imagine this task could become quite uncomfortable.

No FastPass

Disney has temporarily suspended the FastPass+ program due to the capacity limit.

No park-hopping

Disney has temporarily suspended the use of “Park Hopper” tickets, which allow guests to visit multiple parks in one day.

Closed attractions

While Disney has made every effort to maintain social distance on its attractions, it isn’t possible for all of them. You can view attractions by park here to what’s open and closed.

No character meet and greets, parade of lights, or fireworks

Character meet-and-greets, the parade of lights, and fireworks are temporarily suspended. Disney is instead offering small parades so that guests can see Mickey and their other favorite characters. In addition, if you stay until you can catch a glimpse of Mickey and Friends on your way out.

I hope this list will help you decide if going to Disney at this time is right for you and your family.
