Maintenance | Fall Cleaning List
While these Florida temperatures don’t scream fall, it’s right around the corner and my heart longs for pumpkin patches, hayrides, scarfs, boots, cooler weather and pretty home décor. To be able to enjoy these activities to the fullest, I always like to do my fall cleaning first. Here’s some things you might want to complete, so you too can enjoy those cooler temperatures with peace of mind:
Fertilize your Lawn
Surprisingly, fall is the perfect time to fertilize your lawn. Fertilize with a high phosphorous mix to protect it over the winter and help it green up faster in the spring. Fertilizing in the fall is especially helpful in areas that experience drier summers.
Service your HVAC
Your AC has been chugging along all summer, earning a well-earned break. If it’s been awhile since your last scheduled maintenance, now would be the time to do that. You should ensure that all indoor vents are uncovered, change the air filter, and possibly even clean your air ducts.
Clean Your Gutters
Clogged gutters will send water pouring down the side of your home, eventually damaging the siding, landscaping and foundation.
Clean your chimney
Nothing fun about filling your home with soot, smoke, and carbon monoxide because your chimney isn’t working correctly. Even gas fireplaces need to be inspected to ensure the pipe is free of cracks that can allow smoke to enter your home
- Test and change batteries in smoke and carbon monoxide detectors.
- Clean humidifiers in your home during the winter months to prevent bacteria and mold growth. The heater presents the perfect growing conditions for both.
- Seal drafts around windows and doors with weather stripping or caulking.
- Check all exterior lighting and replace as needed or trim branches away to shine more light
- Clean the dryer vent line running outside
- Put another coat of stain or paint on your deck
- Add Fuel stabilizer to gas powered equipment run then drain
- Make sure your Fire Extinguisher has not expired
