Happy hurricane season everyone!! Looks like this year‘s hurricane season is off to a busy start.
We’ve already had two tropical storms come through but thankfully we were spared the deluge of rain that came out of Fred. Thank God!! If we had the direct hit from Fred our already swollen and flooded Suwannee River would have surely flooded our home and many others. I feel so terrible for the people less fortunate that did get the direct impact and had severe flooding. I’m sure it’ll happen here on the river one day and when it does I’ll not complain. I know that’s the price I pay for living on the river.
This month marks the end of what we call or “Turn Season”. When a large majority of people tend to move in and out of our rental homes and we spend a considerable amount of time “turning properties”. That means doing move-out inspections, coordinating cleaning, painting, flooring replacements, full lawn cleanup, etc.
It’s also the time of year that people tend to think about renting out their home or selling it after it’s been in the rental pool for years. We spend a lot of time helping get their property prepared with all of the above maintenance and renovation type work so that we can put their property on the market for rent or sale.
This is happening all over our Market. Combine this with the shortage of manpower and production issues that COVID has brought us and needless to say that means vendors are in high demand and overloaded. We’ve run into supply shortages of all types. Never before have I experienced Sherwin-Williams running out of my go-to “Warm Putty” paint in every store in Gainesville and having to wait for their supply truck to come in so we can finish our turn projects. The constant rain we’ve had lately further slows us down when we’re doing exterior lawn cleanups and exterior painting.
But the feel of fall is in the air… the bulk of our move-outs are now done and new tenants moved in. The properties that decided to sell in this fabulous sellers market instead of rent again have closed, so it’s a feeling of weight being lifted from our shoulders and we can walk with a lighter step as we move into September. Don’t get me wrong, I’m not complaining whatsoever about the work We do. In fact, I still love it after 33 years! It’s just that it all happens at once! Sure we get turnover throughout the year and sell property throughout the year but the bulk of it happens between July and August. It’s a crazy busy time but I’m so thankful to still be doing this job I love and celebrating my 10th year of opening Secure Investments!
We took a trip to Colorado in July to celebrate the life of my brother and stepdad and spread their ashes amongst the places they loved so much. It was a beautiful celebration and a wonderful time spent bonding with my family. We had so much fun mudding and hanging out in a beautiful mountainside home and sharing memories with family we’d not seen in a while. I hope you enjoy the crazy videos I put together of our trip
I have had a very close friend also lose their dad and brother this week to COVID. I knew both of these men well and am so heartbroken for the loss this family is feeling. While my family members didn’t die of COVID so many people are. Every time I look at FB you see more and more of your friends and family posting sorrowful heartbreaking news of lives lost. It is so sad. Now more than ever it’s so important to show love grace and compassion to all of your family, friends, and strangers. You don’t know the turmoil they’re going through. You don’t know if it’ll be the last time you see them. All we can do is our best right now to show them the love in our hearts and not save it for later. There may not be a later. My heart is heavy with the lives lost recently in Afghanistan and the poor men and women that are going to have to deal with the US pulling out of their country. There's so much happening in the world right now that is heartbreaking. I urge you to let these sad times springboard you into cherishing your life, your family as well as your Neighbor… Don’t wait to start showing your love and living a compassion-filled, grateful life. You don’t know when it’ll be your time or your husband's time, so show the love now.
I’m sorry, I know I’ve gone off the rails. My heart is heavy but at the same time, grateful and full of love for this life and all humanity. I hope yours is too.
