Gainesville has a disproportionate number of renters due to our university student population. The college population may make you think only college students are renters. But only 28% of Gen-Xers (born between 1960-1980) see themselves as homeowners in 5 years. That means an overwhelming 70% of that age group is planning on remaining renters. This completely changes how you should market your single-family homes and who you may be renting them in the future. This study found some surprising characteristics about today’s renters that may help you understand them better and keep your property rented.
